six ways to get healthier!
1. Enjoy a drink… with your dinner. It is a common ritual for women to get home from work and pour themselves a huge glass of wine. And you know what? That’s ok! However, the healthier option is to have a glass with a meal, rather than a stress reliever (on an empty stomach) when you get in.2. Go outside, for 10 minutes. Due to the demands of our hectic work schedules, a large portion of our time is spent indoors. Studies show that getting outdoors, even to sit on a bench, and bask in nature’s backyard, can reduce stress levels and health problems to go with it.3. Stay in bed longer. YES hit snooze!Chronic sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain, depression and diabetes. This is not what we want. It is important to understand that sleep is not a luxury. It is a necessity. We need sleep just as much as we need food and water. So ensure you get at least 8 hours of shut eye a night, in order to stay healthy.4. See friends… often or every day. Spending time with friends is good for the soul. We connect with each other through providing support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality “girlfriend time” helps us to create more serotonin-a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well-being. So essentially, that ‘girl time’ is just what the doctor ordered.5. Make weekend plans, NOW!Just anticipating a good time can help your heart. Research has shown that looking forward to something creates a change in your brain and may lower brain pressure and heart pressure as well. So what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and start making some plans!6. Live, Laugh, Love. Life is GREAT.Laughter stimulates feel-good chemicals and provides a superb all-round boost, which can pep up energy levels and boost feelings of wellbeing. In times of stress, people often forget to laugh. Invest in some films or books that will prompt a fit of giggles, and take note of how mood changes and energy levels increase as a result.
